Is Google Drive Sync is presently installed on your system? If yes then, go to the step 2. If no then, skip the step 2 and follow the step 3. Firstly, Uninstall Google Drive Sync Open the Google Drive and choose 'Download Drive File Stream for Windows' from Settings menu as shown below.; Select the 'Download for Windows' blue button; The DriveFileStream.exe is now in Download and can be.

Where to update settings

I have several users using File stream to collaborate on projects with remote offices and consultants. If user A, saves a file to a team drive, it can take over 10 minutes for that file to appear on user B's file stream drive (in file explorer). User b can be in the same office or remotely, the delay is the same. From your Web browser, go to the Google Drive File Stream home page. On the Google Drive Help page, click on Download for Windows. In the following pop-up window, click Save File. If you’re prompted to enter a location in which to save the installer file, titled googledrivefilestream.exe, save the file to your Desktop. (If you’re not prompted, the file may have been saved in your Downloads folder.). Click the Drive File Stream tray icon, click the three-dot menu, and click Quit. Then, go to Programs and Features (Windows 7) or Apps & Features (Windows 8 & 10) in Settings. Press 'Uninstall'. Google Drive File Stream is a desktop application that allows you to quickly access all of your Google Drive files on demand, directly from your computer without losing precious drive space. With Google Drive File Stream, your files are stored on the cloud instead of your computer, and any changes you make are automatically synced with the.

To set the Drive File Stream options, you update registry keys (Windows) or use the defaults command (macOS). If you’re not familiar with making these updates, contact your administrator or check your operating system documentation. Additionally, administrators can choose to set override values that end users can't change.

Settings

Set these name/value pairs using the registry keys or defaults command, as described above. On Windows, create the registry keys if they don't already exist. On macOS, the defaults command maintains a plist file for settings. You should not modify the plist file directly, as some changes might not be applied.

Number (macOS)Maximum upstream kilobytes per second.ContentCachePathStringSets the path to the content cache location on a connected APFS, HFS+, or NTFS file system.

When Drive File Stream restarts, local data in the old content cache will move to the new content cache location. If you delete your custom setting, data will move back to the default location.

The default cache location is:

Windows:%LOCALAPPDATA%GoogleDriveFS
Mac:~/Library/Application Support/Google/DriveFS

ContentCacheMaxKbytesQWORD (Windows)
Number (macOS)Sets the limit on content cache size in kilobytes. The limit is capped at 20% of the available space on the hard drive (regardless of the setting value). The setting does not apply to files made available offline or files that are in the process of uploading.

This setting is only available for admins, as an override or host-wide setting.

DefaultMountPointStringWindows: Set the mounted drive letter.
You can use an environment variable to specify the drive letter.

macOS: Set the mounted drive path. You can include tilde (~) or environment variables in the path.

DisableRealTimePresence*DWORD (Windows)
Bool (macOS)Disables real-time presence in Microsoft Office.

This can also be disabled for organizational units from the Admin console. See step 3 of Deploy Drive File Stream.

ForceBrowserAuth*DWORD (Windows)
Bool (macOS)Use browser authentication.

If your organization uses security keys or SSO, this setting may resolve sign-in problems.

MinFreeDiskSpaceKBytesQWORD (Windows)
Number (macOS)Controls the amount of local space used by Drive File Stream's cache. Stops writing content to the disk when free disk space gets below this threshold, in kilobytes.Proxy settings:DisableSSLValidation*DWORD (Windows)
Bool (macOS)This disables validating SSL traffic. Traffic will still be encrypted, but we will not validate that the SSL certificates of the upstream servers are all valid. This is inherently insecure. It would allow a man-in-the-middle attack against traffic to Google Drive.

Only settable host-wide.

TrustedRootCertsFileStringThis is the full path to an alternate file to use for validating host SSL certificates. It must be in Privacy Enhanced Mail (PEM) format. Set this if your users are on networks with decrypting proxies.

Drive File Stream Preferences Windows 10

The file should contain the contents of the roots.pem file shipped with Drive File Stream, plus the certificates used to authenticate your proxy. These additions should correspond to the proxy-signing certificates you added to the certificate stores in your fleet of machines.

You can find roots.pem in:

Program FilesGoogleDriveFS<version>configroots.pem
(Windows)

or

/Applications/Google Drive File Stream.app/Contents/Resources/roots.pem
(macOS)

Only settable host-wide.

DisableCRLCheck*DWORD (Windows)
Bool (macOS)This disables checking Certificate Revocation Lists (CRLs) provided by certificate authorities.

If not explicitly set, this defaults to true if TrustedRootCertsFile is provided, otherwise false. Sites that use self-signed certificates for their content inspection proxies typically don’t provide a CRL.

Enterprises that specify a CRL in their proxy certificate can explicitly set DisableCRLCheck to 0 for the added check.

* For boolean values, use 1 for true and 0 for false (Windows), or use true and false (macOS).

Once you install the PC version of Google Drive (Back up and Sync) , there are lot of setting to choose from. These can be used to improve upload speed, change network settings, decide the quality of photos and videos, the type of back up and auto-upload of USB media etc.

To first use “Preferences” in Back up and Sync of Google Drive, double-click the cloud icon in the system tray. Don’t get confused of different cloud based services like OneDrive, DropBox, Box, AmazonDrive, iCloud and many others.

The icon for OneDrive and Google Drive look similar, but are different.

Click on the vertical three dots on the pop-up the comes up. You should see “Preferences“.

1. My Computer
2. Google Drive

The following things are available here. You can choose what folders to continuously back up to Google Drive. These include default folders like Desktop, Documents, Pictures etc. You can also add additional folders.

You can decide whether you want original quality photos and videos or high quality. There is a difference between the two. If you want high quality, then you have unlimited storage. But if you select original quality, it will count towards your Google Drive storage.

Also when “Removing items“, you have 3 choices.
1. Ask me before removing items everywhere
2. Don’t remove items everywhere
3. Remove items everywhere

This will help sync deleted items. For example, if you deleted a file in your sync folder on your computer, it will be deleted from Google Drive on the server also. It will be put to Trash, so that you can decide what to do later.

The above options will be helpful on the default behavior of removable items from the shared folder between your computer and Google Drive.

  • If you chose the first option, it will give a warning message before it’s deleted from the server also.
  • The second option will delete the files on the PC, but keep it on the server.
  • The third option will remove files from both your PC sync folder and Google Drive, without any warning.

The Google Photos is another option available here. You can decide whether the newly added photos and videos are added to Google Photos or Google Drive. You can check your Photos Settings to see which items from Google Drive are shown in Google Photos.

There is another option called – USB Devices & SD Cards. If you have old camera micro SD card or when you connect your mobile through USB device, you can automatically back up photos and videos.
